In my opinion, barrel ceilings look out of place in a home when they are not painted with a decorative finish. It's like baking a cake but not putting on the frosting. Even though its a difficult finish to pull off (you have to consider the lack of natural light and that it's viewed from all angles) the end result is a great conversation piece.
