Less is more..

Less is more sometimes. Especially to those who don't like color on their walls. A wonderful gal was very upset with the result of her tile tub installation. Removing the tile was not an option so I told her the best way to find a solution was to distract. By distract, I mean change the focus from the crooked lines of paint and grout around the tub, to a very light green colorwash that compliments the tile and gives a new look. This faux is so subtle that it's hard for my camera to catch. But it does the job. And as for the crooked lines of paint- that's easy. I fixed it.

Green on green colorwash.

Green on green is one application faux finish that gives a very impressive result. I believe this is because the color is an earth tone and it automatically soothes and becomes even more appealing to the eye.

Gold and silver cabinet.

I wish I would have taken a picture of the dining room set that this cabinet was created to match. It is the best replication I have created so far in my career. I am always asked to match something with something. Usually there is evidence as to how a manufactured piece was produced. Layers of paint can be seen under the pieces and scratches give clues. To be successful at matching decorative pieces you must understand color theory and the outcome of layering hues. You also must know when to say when.
If you need to paint a piece that was layed flat in manufacturing, such as a cabinet door, try your best to lay your door flat as well. Gravity makes a huge difference in decorative painting.

Game room and bar remodel.

This couple had a room remodeled to accommodate their entertaing needs. They wanted something unique for the walls and felt that a texture finish would go great with the rest of the home. Even thought texture finishes are commonly used to compensate for walls that are out of shape, I do texture new construction and remodels.

Same composition, different colors.

Remember 'Basement Art'? Had another client that could not find what they were looking for in stores or on the internet. I showed them the last painting that I did and how it was mounted on almost the same gray wall color. They wanted their piece brighter, but also in diptych style. This is a close up shot to show they many layers of color.

Work with Nature.

I like to advise clients with traditional decor to work with nature. If you have a splendid view of the 9th fairway, make sure that you bring the outside in. I'm not saying that you have to go outside and match a green paint color to a blade of grass, but keep it earthy. Your eyes will thank you.
